We are proudly associated and affiliated with SGEPC (Sports Goods Export Promotion Council) – India, KCCI- (Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industries), JKCA (Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association) and other international Cricket Academies, Boards, Leagues and Clubs.
We have a long history of 48 years (Since 1974) in the sport of cricket and the GR8 Sports’ brand name is synonymous to the highest standards of Quality & craftsmanship.
Our History
Our story begins with Mr. Abdul Kabeer Dar, an enthusiastic Businessman and a Cricketer of Sangam, Islamabad – Kashmir. This renowned Gentleman took a pledge to introduce Made in Kashmir (Kashmiri willow) Cricket Bats, other Protective Gear & Equipment to the International market through “Great Sports”. He dreamt of making the Kashmiri Cricket bats manufacturing industry the most prominent and accomplished one.
His Passion for the game drove him to start a Cricket Bats Manufacturing company on the 21st Day of March, 1974 in his native town. He got the best craftsmen and skilled workers from different parts of the country to the company. In no time, the Cricket bats, Protective Gear and Other Equipment were recognized instantly, which won the hearts of many professional cricketers.
Despite continuous efforts and hardships, he was struggled to make it through his brand name to the International Market.
In the year 2010, the name of the Company / Brand was changed to “GR8 Sports”, to give the new feel of energy & vigour.
Later on In the Year 2014, his sons: Fawzul-Kabeer (MBA in Marketing & Finance from The IUST- Awantipora, Kashmir) & Naiz-ul-Kabeer (Chartered Accountant from the ICAI-India) took over the Business and started the process of introducing GR8 Sports’ Cricket Bats, Protective Gear and Equipment (100% Handmade in Kashmir) to the international market.
Got the knowledge of International Cricket bats’ Dimensions, Ping, Balance, Sweet-spot, Bats for different Pitch types, Bats for different Batting positions, and different batting conditions etc. from the various International Cricket Academies, Coaches, renowned Craftsmen and Cricketers.
Hired the World’s Best Craftsmen and Skilled Workers from World’s Leading Brands-who had made Cricket Bats for International Cricketers like: Steve Waugh, Michael Bevan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mathew Hayden, Justin Langer, Graeme Smith, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara, Saqib ul Hassan, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virendra Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Rohit sharma to name a few.
After 8 long years of tireless hard work, we got the “ICC Approval” in the year 2020. Then on the 19th Day of October, 2021 we were finally able to launch our Cricket bats and equipment in the international cricket. This was for the first time in the Kashmir’s 98 years of Cricket Bats Manufacturing History of more than 400 factories that the Made in Kashmir Cricket Bats, Protective Gear and Equipment of a Kashmiri Brand were used by the International Cricketers of any Cricket Playing Nation that too in the Cricket’s Mega Festival ICC T20 world Cup 2021. It was used by Omani International Cricketers (Mohammad Naseem Khushi, Bilal Khan, Kaleemullah Cheema, Aqib Ilyas, Zeeshan Maqsood) in their Group Stage match against the Bangladeshi Cricket team.
The 19th day of October, 2021 will be marked as a Historic Day for whole of the Cricket Bats & Equipment Manufacturing industry of Kashmir that gave it a worldwide recognition. Thus the Cricketing World will henceforth be able to get the best in quality Cricket bats (at Par with English Willow) and Equipment at the cheapest price.
